I was playing some of Acorn's favourite $3.50 300 chip SNG's. I didn't do too well. Came 5th when AQ was beaten by A3. And came third when A6 was beaten by 66. Oh well.

Anyway, I was asking willgamble4sex about what sort of sex they offer. Apparently willgamble4sex is male and does anything but rimming to females. Not males. I guess he wouldn't get along with Rosie's idol - Always Aroused Girl.

I've been working on my link building strategy for a few weeks now.

My main strategies have involved:

- social bookmarking
- blog commenting
- article writing
- report page backlinks

I'm not too keen on the social bookmarking. It was very mind numbing, and doesn't give me the feeling that I'm doing anything productive. I saw an interesting service from onlywire, which submits pages to 20 social bookmarking services, but I'm not sure if it's worth trying.

The blog commenting is a good way to learn about new stuff. I found lots of good SEO tips while searching for SEO blogs. However, the dofollow blog directories don't have very accurate blog lists. This is probably because dofollow links are heavily spammed, and that bloggers will often make their blogs nofollow again. After advertising my blog as dofollow, some cunt thought I'd approve a comment that said "thanks. XYZ.com". I don't understand how the fucker thought his comment was adding any sort of value.

The article stuff is time consuming. And writers block can make it hard to think of stuff. However, I've had some potentially interesting results so far. A search of my first article in google returns 169 results (google search). I only submitted the article to 5 directories. And while only a few of the 169 results will contain a backlink to dawjee, it does show that the article has been copied around the internet.

I've written a tool to help webmasters get a load of free backlinks from sites like whois.sc.

Basically, some sites provide reports about websites. And these reports have links to the sites in question. If webmasters can get google to index these pages, then they should get free backlinks from them. I've therefore created a tool at http:/www.dawjee.com/blg that helps webmasters to generate a list of these links. If they're placed around the web in sufficient quantities then the search engines should spider them, and the webmasters will receive many backlinks.

Building backlinks can be an arduous process. The most common free methods are directory submissions, article submissions, comment posting and social bookmarking.

However, articles take time to write, and writers’ block can be hard to shake off. Directory submissions are hard to get approved for new Page Rank Zero sites. Comment posting can be a good option. And social bookmarking doesn’t always increase traffic unless many users bookmark it.

Fortunately, there are some easier ways to get links, and I shall be listing them in a short series of articles.

For this first article, I shall describe using public information about your site to gain backlinks.

Domain information tools such as whois.net, Alexa and domaintools.com maintain information about virtually every domain. As a result, every domain will have a backlink from these sites. However, the search engines won’t know about all these pages unless they’re informed of them. Therefore, webmasters who’ve registered new domains can gain some free backlinks by merely pointing links at these pages. These links can be hosted on blogs, forums or any other sites that is already indexed.

As an example, I have recently registered the domain dawjee.com, and would like to add some backlinks to it. In order to get them from whois.net, Alexa and domaintools.com, I need to place the following links on indexed pages (e.g. my blog):

I have been using dawjee.com to analyse search terms for a while now - toying with keyword suggestions and looking for interesting patterns or anomalies in the result data (e.g. pages with query string data often report an erroneous Google Page Rank of zero).

After discussing some findings with a colleague, I realised a lot of what I'm learning will also be of use and/or interest to other webmasters. I shall therefore catalogue all future findings in a series of articles / blog posts.

This first article shall observe the current Google results for the term "dandruff".

At the of writing, the top 3 results are:

What's interesting is that P2 (Position 2) has a lower PR (Google Page Rank) than P3 (Position 3). Both web pages contain Dandruff in their TITLE tags and urls. So a cursory glance would suggest that P3 should have a better (i.e. lower) rank than P2.

From taking a look at both pages, both are on topic and contain genuine information about dandruff. P2 is only a small page, and is part of a full article (i.e. many small interlinked dandruff pages). While P3 is a full article on a single page.

The keyword densities are 4.86% for P2 and 6.39% for P3. Neither page makes obvious use of contrived keyword stuffing.

However, if we drill down into the data for each result (use the small magnifying glass next to each result, or follow the link the Resources list below), we'll find some significant differences in their hosts and backlinks.

P2 has 6 Google backlinks, with 4,990 to its host. While P3 has 3 and 270 respectively.

P2 also dwarfs P3 in terms of the number of pages Google has indexed (Pages in Host), and also has a higher host page rank 7 (vs 5 for P3).

To summarise, P2 may have a lower page rank, but it has a few more links and its home page is overwhelmingly more popular than P3's. It is also part of a set of pages about dandruff. Instead of having the full article on a single page, it has been split among many. P2 therefore has several interlinked pages about dandruff.

It therefore appears that the pages hosted on popular (in terms of search engines) web sites can rank better than other pages, even if they have lower Google Page ranks. Splitting up articles into many small pages helps as well.

Not all my attempts were successful. And it took me close to an hour to go through that list. Very boring. And to be honest, it didn't really add value to the internet.

Atleast with commenting, I had some banter with other bloggers, and managed to learn a few things.

To conclude, this social bookmarking malarky doesn't feel productive, though it could attain a lot of traffic if people like the tool. The next thing I'll try is writing some articles on how to use dawjee.

Donkey Link Building Project

This blog will document my link development project for Dawjee.com.

I shall attempt to develop a process whereby I can easily attain quality one way links.

My first experiments shall involve making comments on dofollow blogs. And seeing what sort of responses I receive when making quality comments. Where possible, I will use my blogsend address in comments, so that all notifications will be posted here. This will help to document my quest, and give reciprocal linking back to those blogs that I comment on.

So far I've done some small experiments, using some dofollow search engines (they don't seem to be very reliable though), and have struck up conversations regarding SEO, cooking and Vegas strippers. Many SEO professionals recommend getting links from relevant websites, but SEO is a dry topic, so I think I'll find it a lot easier to get links from blogs that have topics that interest me.

I may also use my research results to help develop further features for dawjee.com.
